A Retreat to Remember: Returning to Sky Ranch
This winter, a group of us packed up and headed to Sky Ranch, formerly known as Horn Creek, nestled in the breathtaking Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Colorado. For some of us, this trip was a nostalgic return to a place filled with memories. For others, it was an entirely new adventure. It had been nearly ten years since our church last took a trip to this special place, but before that, it had been an annual tradition. Stepping onto the familiar grounds, we realized that not much had changed and that was a good thing.
The week was filled with both adventure and fellowship. Our group, made up mostly of our young adults class along with their families, had as many kids as adults. There was never a dull moment. We spent our days hiking through the snow-covered trails, bowling in the lodge, and testing our limits on the rock-climbing wall. Friendly competition kept us active with basketball and kickball games, while the kids (and maybe a few adults) eagerly participated in snowman-building contests and even a snowflake hunt.
Of course, the highlight of our retreat was the time spent together in worship and devotion. There’s something about Sky Ranch that makes God feel closer maybe it’s the high elevation, or maybe it’s the way we leave behind the busyness of life and simply focus on Him. Or perhaps it’s the deep fellowship we share with our brothers and sisters in Christ, strengthening old friendships and forging new ones.
No matter the reason, one thing is certain: this trip was a blessing. Whether reminiscing about past retreats or experiencing Sky Ranch for the first time, we all left feeling refreshed, encouraged, and grateful.
